]I like this machine a lot. At first I had big trouble with WiFi though. The download rate was abysmal (ping times to machines on my LAN were 15ms to 2.5s with many packets dropped). After a lot of googling, I found that many people on FiOS had similar problems with the network chipset in this machine, and that turning off the WMM (Wireless Multimedia / Wireless QoS) option in the FiOS router fixed the problem. So I tried that, and it did indeed work. The problems with WiFi disappeared, and the machine seems to be plenty fast at downloading and rendering web pages now.

I should mention that no other machine in my house had problems with the FiOS router before this. So I'm guessing it's something peculiar to the QCA9377 wireless chipset and driver in this machine.

A few other notes I want to add:
1) The sound on this system is surprisingly good despite being such a thin laptop. It sounds rich, and better than what I expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Thing is a Linux Monster!, August 1, 2017
This review is from: Acer Spin 5, 13.3" Full HD Touch, 7th Gen Intel Core i5, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Windows 10, Convertible, SP513-51-53FC (Personal Computers)
Blows away my more expensive laptops! I have two expensive Dell laptops - 1 Inspiron 7000 limited edition and 1 Dell XPS with the display that bleeds to the edges. They are made out of nice expensive materials and are very well made overall. I was walking through Costco and saw the quality of the screen on this machine and had to have it. On top of it, the keyboard is hands down the best quality keyboard I have ever had on a laptop and I am a keyboard snob. Because I hate Windows, I wasn't sure if Linux was going to run properly on this machine. I decided to take a chance and bought it and loaded Linux Mint on it. Linux Mint runs PERFECTLY! Everything works flawlessly and the graphics support is much better on this machine under Linux than even the Dell XPS.

The screen is absolutely amazing - it's so clear and nice to look at that it makes the Dell screens look washed out and dull. The construction of the machine is so solid. It feels like it's built like a tank even though... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars great components and screen, December 17, 2017

Fast computer, great components and screen. An otherwise great product that's ruined by a very loud fan that turns on at seemingly random times. It's strange because the cpu and solidstate memory are modern and are known to run cool.
