I've encountered no significant problems. All the complaints that others have posted are probably true, but they are also probably based on false expectations. Let me explain... Laptops and "gaming" machines are polar opposites. From the ground up, laptops are built for portability and battery life. If you pack them with "gaming" features (graphics card, CPU, RAM, etc) they start to become heavy, power hungry, run hot and burn battery fast. So laptops that stay on for a flight to Europe will not be able to run your games, and the ones that do will run out of juice in 1h (and burn your crotch in the process, assuming TSA lets you on the plane with that monster as a carryon.) As far as a compromise between the two opposite goals (laptop and gaming), this is a pretty good one. I have had an MSI i5? 17" system and a Razer i7 14" to compare it to. I am super happy that... No, NVMe and it's very fast. Next, the size of the device. it's alot larger than the photos would lead you to believe. it's height is about one inch, which is fine, but a little wide. as a matter of fact when I took the laptop out of the box for the first time, I thought it was a 17" model. nope, 15"6. Not bad tho if you take into consideration the performance... which leads to the next topic... this laptop is very Powerful. it's crushes my 3 year old gtx 780ti. its maxing out my entire steam library with ease... just make sure you keep it plugged in, or else performance will drop significantly. as far as build quality, its better than decent imo. plastic but a solid design. I do have some complaints tho... 1. the touchpad is slightly less... I've been very pleased with the design and how this laptop performs. With day to day tasks and video editing this machine absolutely kills it. There is an occasional slowdown because of the 7200 RPM drive (not SSD) but an easy upgrade would be to add an M.2 drive. The keyboard is a chicklet style which is very responsive and a pleasure to use for both typing as well as playing games. Likewise, the trackpad is very smooth and responsive. It's offset from the center of the laptop, but centered under the "main" part of the keyboard (minus the number pad). I've been using this with my Oculus Rift CV1 and it's been working flawlessly. I have the headset, with sensor and the sensor for the touch controllers plugged in and there was space for all of them, but only the USB-C port is left unused so not much room to expand. For non-VR games, I got some very good framerates: Battlefield... Read more Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? |
