The bottom is carbon fiber, the lid mimics the MacBook covers amazingly closely, and it felt great (I think the carbon fiber is much nicer than the all-aluminum Macbooks). And the keyboard is terrific: The keys are slightly concave, and have a bit more travel than other ultralights, and it's delight to type on. However, the trackpad was a problem from the get-go and that was the stopper issue for me - it just wasn't very responsive, and I won't struggle with a trackpad. Also, I only had it a few days but someone else in the office has the 15" version (with the same trackpad) and while he has no problem with it, his looks disgusting: I don't know what it's made of but he's a very clean guy and yet the trackpad started looking oily and disgusting within a week or two of his having it. One other thing I don't like, though this is just a preference, is that the screen doesn't open as far as I'd like. I... Love this machine, October 17, 2014 This review is from: Dell XPS 13ULT-7144sLV 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Personal Computers) This is a great ultrabook, something I have been looking for. The skeleton of this book is smaller than Mac book air. Boots up in like 4 seconds, thanks to the solid state drive. I am still getting use to Windows8 but it's not bad. Very easy to carry and comes with 1 year Dell warranty. The speakers on ultrabook are great and have clear and loud sound. The touch screen is pretty smooth and dell has done an excellent job in making this device. The downside for this device is that I cannot have ubuntu installed due to the device driver conflict. Which I was assuming I could have. Also there isn't any free utility that can be used to fall-back on windows7 UI which is not deal breaker for me but could be for others if they are used to windows7 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful Super slim and very fast, October 9, 2014 This review is from: Dell XPS 13ULT-7144sLV 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Personal Computers) We bought the Dell XPS 13ULT-7144sLV 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Laptop a few months ago for our 15-year old daughter as a school laptop. She really wanted a convertible but the convertible we looked at had weird keyboards, they had strange design, or they were much slower, so we picked this one even though it was not a convertible. It has a nice comfortable backlit keyboard, it is lightweight, it is super slim, it has a nice bright 1920 x 1080 13.3 inch touch screen, a long lasting battery, and it is stylish looking. It is also impressively fast for such a small laptop. The main reason for that is the 256GB solid state hard drive, which not only makes disk access super fast but makes it more robust as well since there are no moving parts. I can add that it has two USB 3.0 ports but unfortunately no optical drive. It is also a bit expensive. I measured the performance using Passmark and I got an overall score of 2206.9, a CPU mark score of 4060, a 2D graphics score of 631, a 3D...
