I'll call out the issues right at the start, so that you can decide if this device makes sense for you. - Initial boot up and startup is very slow. I ran task manager, and this was because of a bunch of Windows updates running in the background. My recommendation to deal with this would be to start setting this up, and when the laptop has run through all its configuration steps, give it another 3-4 hours, depending on the speed of your wifi connection. After it was done updating, I saw the CPU come down to ~15% when idle - This laptop has Windows 10 in S mode. If you dont need any other apps, I am sure its fine. But I did not find a good ssh app in the Windows App store, and I wanted my trusty Putty back. This meant that I had to get the laptop out of S mode. Its not hard to do, Windows practically walks you through how you do this. There is an irritating part where you have to have a... I do realize that I bought a CHEAP laptop; however, I did not think so much effort would be required to get it started.
It took SO much effort, just to plug the adapter into the hole in the computer (this is after confusing the earphone slot on the right side for it). I thought I was going to break the connector inside the adapter hole, trying to force the adapter in - it finally went through. Not to speak of all of the updates that appear to be required - there are multiple installs needed, and I am still waiting for them to show a.measure of progress.
Others have said - be VERY certain what you do and do not need, before buying this. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful Good budget laptop for most applications, November 30, 2018 This review is from: EVOO EV-C-125-3-SL 12.5" HD Ultra Slim Laptop, Intel Celeron Quad Core CPU, 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage, Fingerprint Scanner, Silver (Personal Computers) Ordered this laptop one night when I was feeling frivolous as the specs looked pretty decent. Got buyers remorse the next morning as I was feeling like it probably wouldn't really function like a non 'budget' computer with the same specs, and tried to cancel. Unable to cancel. Came very quickly and I tried it out. Was able to get it out of Windows S mode pretty easily (and into full Windows 10), and was pleasantly surprised at the functionality. Obviously not expecting it to run graphic intense games, but it does hold up with some heavier processing programs that I use. Im sure its not designed to take much abuse, but actually feels pretty sturdy. Battery life has been good so far. Not upset about this purchase at all, would definitely recommend. It does boast a webcam, however it might as well be without as its terrible quality. That's the only real quality issue Ive noticed so far. |
