I received the laptop in mail on Nov 28, 2017. I replaced my prior HP Vista laptop with this new laptop. I called HP for the first time today Dec 19, 2017. I was informed the warranty started on Sept 25, 2017, approx. two months after I received the computer in the mail. HP is supposed to provide ninety days of free telephone support to help set up the computer. I actually had to argue with the HP supervisor "Carla" who provides telephone support for HP from down in Salvador in Central America that the 90 days of support had not expired already. Once we finally established I am still OK with the first 90 days of coverage, though only days away from being expired I next learn the help I am asking for is a "third party application" so an additional fee is required anyway. I had Windows Media player on my HP laptop with Vista and when I transferred over all my songs to the new computer with Microsoft... If you order a touchscreen, MAKE SURE IT'S A TOUCHSCREEN before spending 2 days loading all of your apps and info on your new laptop. I kept thinking I'd figure out how to use the touchscreen, eventually. I finally contacted Amazon yesterday and realized that I was shipped the WRONG computer. The computer was $200 difference. I could send it back in and order a new one, but 1) the price for the touchscreen has shot up since I bought this one 3 days ago and 2) I've spent 2 days loading my info on there...not sure what to do at this point. Just wanted to forewarn others so you can avoid the same mistake I made. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful A good choice for engineering students, January 3, 2018 This review is from: HP Envy 17.3-Inch Full HD IPS Touchscreen Laptop, 7th Intel Core i7-7500U, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB 7200RPM HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 940MX, DVD, HDMI, Bluetooth, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10-Silver (Leather Bound) I purchased this laptop for school. It was getting old being the only person in class without one (such college peer pressure). The real reason I bought this is for electronics data collection for some upcoming classes. I need a computer that I can move around and that can run some of our software. My main experience is with desktops. I've always preferred the faster speeds without having to worry about a battery. I can't carry the big computer to a 3D printer every time I need to make a part or back and forth the the electronics bench to monitor a circuit though. This laptop is a great choice for students. I find that it lasts through back to back classes. I often have lab classes with access to a power outlet so the battery isn't much of an issue for me and I haven't tested it's limit. The most important part for me is that it runs all of the software I use pretty fast for a laptop. I have been using Mathematica, Matlab, AutoCad, Inventor, Logger Pro, Eagle, and... Read more |
