Not for those who want long battery life or vibrant 1080p display., May 20, 2017 This review is from: Lenovo Legion Y520 - 15.6" Gaming Laptop Computer i5-7300HQ / Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB / 8GB DDR4 DRAM / 256GB PCIe SSD / Windows 10 Signature Image 80WK00FHUS (Personal Computers) For the gamer on the go, Lenovo Legion Y520 is a sleek laptop that visually looks stunning and solid performance for its price. May you be a parent looking to purchase your child with a gaming laptop that can play today's games or a gamer that has a budget of under $1,000 (base model), the Lenovo Legion Y520 offers surprisingly more bang for the buck. The base model version uses a Core i5-7300HQ CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB 5,400-rpm hard drive and an Nvidia GTX 1050Ti with 4GB of VRAM. And for most gamers who want to play games in 1080p and 60 fps, today's games will play just fine. For me, there were a few tests that I wanted to do with my Steam games, my teen son tested it extensively with his Roblox games that require more power than his previous laptop. And for today's games, the GTX 1050 ti has been reviewed constantly by gamers on 60fps for games such as "Overwatch", "Counterstrike: Global Offensive", "Middle-earth:... The aesthetics are gorgeous, the red keyboard is awesome--everything comes together nicely. (And it's very light-weight compared to other gaming laptops I've had) Windows 10 setup was super easy. It walks you through it (though be sure to have your windows password on hand. Took me a while to reset it and successfully log in) The boot and restart times are super fast thanks to the slick solid state drive (both well under a minute). I ran some benchmark tests (pics attached), and honestly, the whole package is super solid, especially for the price and coming from a trustworthy brand. I also ran a basic download/upload speed test, and strangely, my Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series was much slower. Dell Speedtest: 27.9 Mbps download, 17.0 Mbps upload. Lenovo Speedtest: 49.0 Mbps download, 20.3 Mbps upload. So the Lenovo must have a good wifi chip. The placement of the ports is excellent, and I... Just a little back story, I'm an IT professional and all around computer nerd. After a bad experience with my last gaming laptop I figured gaming laptops weren't practical and thinking about that 8lb monster now I'm quite sure it had a lot to do with size. That was a 17" HP "entertainment notebook"...granted the glorious screen real estate was well appreciated, however I'm glad I chose a 15.6" this time around. Because we're not going to be gaming on these ALL the time! When it's at home and hooked to AC power THEN it can flex it's muscles. And in truth, you are getting some pretty decent muscle for the price. The 1050 ti GPU is no slouch and during my quick gaming tests proved more than sufficient for most modern games. My Legion Y520 was purchased direct from Lenovo during a sale so I got the i7 7700hq and 1050 ti with 8GB DDR4 and a 128GB m.2 nvme SSD. I added another 8GB of...
