I looked at the 15.6 "mid-range" gaming laptops from Asus, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, Sager, Lenovo and Gigabyte. I drove to big box stores and tested most of them out. This is the computer with the best specs for the price you can get. I'm not returning it and I'd make the same choice again. But I'm not 100% happy. I wanted a computer that would be somewhat "future proof". Which, to me, as of late 2015, meant a 6th Gen i7/i5 processor, at least an Nvidia 960M with at least 3GB VRAM (DDR5), 12 GB RAM (ideally DDR4), full HD matte screen, a USB C port (ideally Thunderbolt 3), Windows 10. Only a handful of options met all the criteria within my budget, specifically, the Asus GL552VW-DH74, The Acer "Predator" and this GE62. The "Predator" looks silly. So, it came down to the Asus and the MSI. Both have some metal accents but are mostly plastic builds. I like the overall... The screen is clear, bright and thin. The customizable backlit keyboard is one of the highlights of this machine. After leaving Windows and being on a MacBook Pro for three years it was nice to still have backlit keys. And I'm so happy to have my beloved numeric keypad back. The new 6th gen Intel i7 is awesome! Makes Windows 10 pretty snappy. The SSD system drive boots to the Windows 10 login screen in about five seconds. The USB-3 ports are fast and the HDMI output is handy for throwing to an external monitor. I haven't used the USB-C port yet as I don't have any devices that support it. I like that the HDMI and mini-display ports can be used simultaneously for a total of three displays. The fans are audible, but they aren't as loud as I thought they'd be. Quieter than the ones that were in my 15-inch MacBook Pro. The Cooler Boost fans are noisier, but not... This is a great computer at a great price point! I always look not for the cutting-edge technology, but the best bang-for-the-buck. I'm a programmer who occasionally plays games, so I wanted a system that had the right balance of power and portability. Pros: Keyboard - The keys have just the right amount of tactile feedback for touch-typists. Not too loud like the IBM Model-M, and not mushy like most others. The backlighting is both useful and fun, and it can be dimmed or turned off as desired. Weight - This laptop feels much lighter than my last one, a Sager NP8130/Clevo P151HM1. The power brick is also smaller and lighter. Performance - This is plenty powerful for typical gaming. Others have done reviews and posted benchmarks for various games, so I won't repeat that information here. Cons: BIOS - I'm not a fan of the...
