Silver Toshiba L55W-C/5252 15.6 Inches Laptop Review

Whenever I get a new laptop, I require a little mental preparation. My mind recalls the Gateways and Dells of my youth, which often required many hours to set up and lots of cables to plug-in and organize. This is definitely not the case with the Toshiba Satellite Fusion, which only needs a power cable and takes about 20 minutes to set up (I timed it). However, it took me an embarrassingly long time to find the power button - pro-tip: it's on the side.

Within the first few minutes, a few things stuck out. First, I absolutely love the back-lit keyboard. It's a great feature for typing in dimly lit rooms, and it makes playing games or watching videos in the dark a much better experience. The lettering on the keyboard itself also seems a lot bigger than what's typical, something that those of us with poor eyesight find handy. Second, the screen resolution is quite good. I've been using the Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 for the last couple of weeks and I'm happy to report that's a perfectly usable mid-range laptop that offers a good value for the price point. It is on the heavy side but that's to be expected at this price. The 360 hinge and the touchscreen are the unique features here and they go hand-in-hand. I find mixing touch and keyboard/mouse to be annoying but the ability to flip the keyboard back and just use it as a tablet is awesome and works very well with Windows 10. There's no CD/DVD drive but that's fairly common in laptops these days.

I have had the pleasure of using this Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15" for the last 30 days. Below is my honest review after 30 days of use.

For this price point, this is a nice laptop with some unique options. I love the speakers on this the most. I have a Chromebook and an older HP laptop that have pretty dismal speakers. The placement of these on the top make it much easier to hear and I don't have to crank the volume up all the way or put in headphones. The fact that this is a touchscreen laptop is another big plus and it goes well with the big feature on this Toshiba- the full rotation of the screen 360 degrees. You can use this as a standard laptop, for presentations, and even as a tablet. It is a bit heavy to use as a tablet all the time (4.5 lbs) so I find I use the full 360 rotation the least. My favorite is putting it in "presentation" or "audience" mode to stream video while sitting up in bed or on the couch.
