I don't really like writing reviews, but I know there are people out there that are hesitating about purchasing this HP Chromebook 14. I'm telling you now that you will not regret it. Trust me when I say that I did so much research on Chromebooks before buying this laptop and it was so hard for me to decide. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to do much on the chromebook. I had an HP Envy dv6 running Windows 10 before I purchased the HP Chromebook 14. It was 15.6 inches and heavy, so I avoided taking it to school at all costs. I'm a college student and finals week is coming up, and I really wanted a light laptop I could carry in my backpack. After hours of looking into Chrome OS, I gave in and bought the HP Chromebook 14 (the 4gb one). It arrived safely and on time. As soon as I powered the laptop on, the chrome logo came up and all I had to do was sign into my Google account and everything was set up already. This laptop is beautiful. I purchased the silver one, and if I want to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great once you figure out how to speed it up!, May 22, 2016

I bought this chromebook a couple weeks ago and I almost gave up on it. I was getting ready to return it because it was laggy on many of the sites I visited, even when I only had one or two tabs open. After much late-night Googling, I figured out why it was going slow and I fixed it. Now it's fast and efficient and I love it.

Let me get this out of the way: the computer is beautiful. It's sleek and lightweight and I love the color (I bought the blue one). I was happily surprised at how it looked in real life, as it's much more vibrant and even a bit greener than the stock photos show. Super happy with the appearance and general feel of the device.

Okay, so on to the slow performance. Turns out, even with 4GB of RAM, the computer is prone to slow speeds. But there's some things you can do.

First, turn off the offline sync feature in Google Drive. If you have tons of files, as I do, this will use up quite a bit of RAM. Go into your Google Drive settings... Read more

Having grown abusive about my HP laptop running Windows 8 due to its very poor browser performance, I thought about what I used it for. Hmmm, not anything that a Chromebook could not do! Having used Google Docs extensively lately for college assignments, I knew that it was fully up to the task of taking over from MS Word. Same for Chrome vs IE. So, I jumped the shark and I'm glad I did!

I love the 10 second boot from a cold shutdown; I love the high resolution display; I love the excellent keyboard, and I love the features and performance of the touchpad! Although I ordered an AmazonBasics wireless mouse along with, I'm starting to feel it's a "luxury" given the high functionality of the touchpad and keyboard shortcuts.

The machine is pretty light, less than 3 pounds, and the build quality is very good. Battery life when the unit is ON is very good, at least 9 hours. But, I've found if I don't shutdown the box overnight, it might be demanding a... Read more
