I purchased mine specifically to be a desktop replacement/mobile workstation. I do not do much gaming, but rather, I run a lot of CPU intensive VMs and networking programs, with occasional Photoshop work. So far, it's been incredible value for money. Performance with this laptop is great, the SSD is fast enough for the kind of work that I do and having the 1TB secondary storage is nice, but I think eventually I will swap both drives out in favor of a single SSD. The graphics card on this laptop is a beast and handles Photoshop exceptionally well, and the 4k screen has great color and depth to it, but IMO is too contrast-y. Things to like about the laptop: - The combination of i7 quad core, SSD, 16GB RAM, and 4GB discrete graphics makes this laptop blazing fast for the money. It's definitely up there with... I use it primarily for internet browsing, gaming, and CAD. Thus far, it has done everything very well. The good: 1. GTX 960m is really quite good - while not the top of the line, it can play most of the games that I have at either high or ultra settings at 1080p. While gaming, the fans are remarkably quiet - I do not know the actual loudness, but at first I thought that my graphics settings were wrong and the laptop wasnt even trying. 2. Battery life is around 5 hours when simply browsing the internet. It is clear that Intel's Skylake processors are quite efficient. 3. Not much bloatware. Just McAffee, and some assorted Dell tidbits, and all the windows 10 garbage that comes with windows 10. 4. Very easy to upgrade. While the stock 1tb harddrive boots quickly, for most usage it is rather slow so I took the ssd out of my previous laptop and installed it. A single screw allows... I had no problem with specs not matching. It's only been a few days but I love it. I'll update if I have any problems. Here is some info I was having a hard time researching before I bought it, even Dells tech support couldn't answer some of the M.2 or ram questions. Storage: It comes with a 1 TB hybrid drive. However, I can confirm there is an empty 80MM M.2 SATA slot. It isn't the faster PCIe m.2 slot, it is SATA. I bought a 500GB Samsung EVO and it zipps now. Super fast. Bonus: I have a relatively fast 2nd 1TB backup drive. Ram: It is set up for DDR3L 1600 CAS 11 RAM if you want to buy a 16GB set. I read elsewhere you can NOT go faster with anything but the CAS. Even then I think it... Read more Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? |
