It just stays black even though the machine is running and making bootup or system noises if it's already on. It's not that it refuses to display and is showing black. It's not showing any light at all. It requires a hard reboot to get the monitor to display again. I purchased this laptop shortly after it was released as I am a diehard HP fan. My last system, a very similar machine that wasn't officially considered a gaming laptop, lasted me almost six years and still runs. I've had this one about three months now, and while it generally runs well and was very easy to set-up and start using, the screen issue makes me wonder if this one will last as long. It's random when it's happening as of this posting, but I'm concerned the problem will become more frequent over time. I'm not as pleased with this purchase as I have been... Although the process took a while (Laptop failed on the 11th of November) I will be receiving my new unit by the 11th of December. I still recommend buying a HP laptop even though I had a failed unit as the customer service I experienced was fantastic. Update 11/15/2018: So I wasn't happy that my laptop died on me in under 3 months (with less than 1 month's light usage). Also, after logging onto HP's support page only for their own software to crash and not work, I honestly thought that I would never buy from HP again. I vented my disappointment on the contact page for the CEO of HP the very afternoon that my laptop stopped working.... and received a phone call the very next day. HP profusely apologized for this issue and recognized that the frustration I had gone through with... This thing is a beast. I can confirm it is capable of hitting 144 fps on Rocket League, Overwatch, RB6 Siege on Ultra settings so far.
It definitely gets hot. The metal chassis above the keyboard could probably fry an egg when you're gaming. The keyboard also gets noticeably warm as well but I attribute that to the incredible specs and the GTX 1070 being housed with an i7 8750h. I have experienced 0 thermal throttling in 2 gaming sessions that exceeded 3 hours each. |
